Nestled in the expanding area of Korean Village and the flourishing Korean cuisine, Dae Jang Gum Korean BBQ House has been operating for less than a year with patronages from locals and Koreans alike from children to members of the embassies.
Oh from Dae Jang Gum said many customers especially Koreans commented the food there tastes more original than other counterparts. He also mentioned that many diners dine in his restaurant after watching Korean drama where it is a hit after Jewel in the Palace.
For meat lovers or for those who are unsure of what to order from its wide range of menu, start off with Mo Dum Gu Ei which is created by Dae Jung Gum itself. It is a combination of meat such as pork, beef, prawns, chicken as well as corn, onions and mushrooms.
Using a bucket full of burning real coal, a plank was placed on top of it to grill the meat. Fret not is you do not know how to grill the chunky piece of meat as there will be an attendant to prepare and grill it for you. All you need to do is to enjoy the whole process of the food being cooked and served before you. Also, a new grill is replaced after every round of grilling to ensure the meat is cooked wonderfully without getting charred. Furthermore, above every table comes with a built-in retractable exhaust fan to keep the fume emitted from the grill at its bay.
The meat is grilled to perfection with its outer layer rather crispy and juicy on the inside. Dipped in the sauces available and wrapped together with green leafy vegetable and garlic, it is sure to send you to the moon. Marinated just right, you can eat it straight like that without adding anything to try its original taste. Make sure to savour the meat once it is done to capture its true tenderness to prevent stocking up on tough and dry meat.
Accompanying the main dish will be the side dishes as many as 11 types consists of spinach, kimchi, anchovies, pickled green chilli and fruit salad, that is sure to widen your appetite even more.
Besides BBQ, Dae Jang Gum also serves Korean delights such as Kimchi Soup, Chicken Ginseng Soup, Korean Steamed Egg and Bim-Bi-Bap (Mixed Vegetable Rice). To wash down the meaty meal earlier, the Soya Bean Paste Soup is a must try. It consists of tofu, potatoes, radish, mushroom, eggplant and seafood served in a stone pot. The ingredients are nicely fused together to bring out the bean paste taste making it a delightful stew.
